Prevent Hair Bumps

To reiterate the brief preventions tips we mentioned here, you can prevent ingrown hairs by following these simple steps.

Prepare skin before shaving. Invest some time to exfoliate gently before shaving to remove dead skin cells. This will also help position the hair in an almost upward position in readiness for shaving. If you shave after a steamy shower it will help to soften the hair before shaving. Note: Do not exfoliate if you already have ingrown hair as this will cause further irritation.

Find a blade that works for your skin. This is not as easy as it sounds and may take a few tries before you find one that works. Stay away from using blades that are dull and so not reuse disposable blades as this can introduce bacteria into freshly shaved skin. Where possible eliminate standard blades and switch to electric razors.

Technique is important
.  Do not apply too much pressure as this can remove surface skin cells and cause irritation. Shave in the direction of the hair growth to allow hair to grow in that direction and not curl backwards and cause bumps.

Moisturize as a routine. Keep your skin moisturized with a moisturizer that won’t clog up your pores.

Keep areas prone to ingrown hair as clean as possible. Keep skin clean especially after exercising or other activities that cause sweating.
